Description
This Rome underground catacombs crypts tour takes you through three very different hidden worlds beneath the city. Instead of focusing on a single site, the experience brings together burial tunnels, religious crypts, and ancient Roman homes to give a broader view of Rome’s past.
The catacombs, located along the Via Appia Antica, show how early Christian communities created underground burial spaces. These tunnels feel quiet and simple, with rows of niches and symbols that reflect belief, memory, and tradition.
You will also visit the Capuchin Crypts, one of the most unusual sites in Rome. Here, human bones are arranged in decorative patterns inside small chapels. The space is not meant to shock, but to reflect on life and mortality, following the traditions of the Capuchin friars.
The experience continues with the Domus Romane at Palazzo Valentini, where ancient Roman houses are revealed through ruins and multimedia reconstruction. Depending on availability, this part of the tour may be replaced with another underground site such as San Clemente. Some options include transportation between locations, while others require you to reach each site independently.

The Capuchin Crypt was something I had never seen before. The guide explained everything clearly, and the tour was well organized.
A very unique experience. The contrast between the tunnels, the bone chapels, and the Roman houses made this one of the best tours in Rome.
