Our guide Marco made the Crypt of the Popes come alive. Small group, no rush, and the ancient frescoes were stunning. Bring a jacket — it is cold even in summer.

The Crypt of Saint Cecilia was the highlight for us. Skip-the-line entry worked perfectly. Just be ready for uneven steps and wear good shoes.

I was worried about claustrophobia but the tunnels felt manageable. The guide explained early Christian history very clearly. Seeing the original papal tombs was unforgettable.
